Hello dear friends, and happy (almost) first day of summer!
3000 miles. One goal. A flight path powered by our love of monarch butterflies.
This year, I launched a team for Miles for Monarchs called The Flight Crew—a high-achieving group of nature lovers, changemakers, and butterfly believers walking in step with a movement much bigger than ourselves.
Why walk?
Because monarchs—like all pollinators—are in decline.
And with them goes the delicate balance of nature that sustains us.
Because when you love something, you protect it💚
With your feet, your voice, your heart.
Meet the amazing Flight Crew:
Each of us brings something special to the journey:
🦋 Dr. Lexi Lain – A homeopathic doctor and triathlete who sees movement as medicine.
“Butterflies and their lifecycle are a powerful symbol. For me, it’s the chrysalis—the less glamorous part—where real change happens. Miles for Monarchs is a way to celebrate life in all its stages.”
🦋 Carl Burrows – A career stuntman, actor, and producer, a decades long monarch devotee, known as the Monarch Whisperer. @CarlDocBurrows
“We’re not just walking miles. We’re walking for monarchs’ survival.”
🦋 Valerie Hail – A celebrated french chef/hotelier and lifelong vegetarian who believes what we grow, cook, and serve can shape the future.
“Pollinators feed the world. We can’t overlook what we owe them—starting with attention and gratitude.”
🦋 Liberty Bell – My 4th-generation ranch granddaughter, and a published grand author at just seven years old. She joined simply because:
“I love nature.”
And if that doesn’t say it all, I don’t know what does.
As for me and Benny?
We’re walking 3–5 miles a day on the greenways of North Carolina. Benny’s got monarch wings (yes, seriously), and we’re sharing updates on TikTok and LinkedIn as we go.
Each step we take is in honor of this delicate species—and the powerful system of people, science, and stories behind it.
This isn’t new for me.
A few years ago, I led a campaign to honor eco-educators across America. The winning teacher and their guests earned a once-in-a-lifetime trip to witness the monarch migration in Mexico—guided by Dr. Court Whelan of Natural Habitat Adventures.

It’s the same Mexico habitat our Harmony Heroes visited—a reminder of what we’re protecting.
In service of pollinators. In service of people.
As a board member of Monarch Joint Venture, I help steward our mission and ensure this tiny little animals will survive its 3,000 mile migrations each year.
But this year, I wanted to go further.
I wanted to walk it out. Get some extra exercise. Make some new friends. Raise some more awareness and funds for the cause.
Those who join this effort believe that conservation doesn’t live in conference rooms, but rather lives on the land and in the air. Also, in the hands of those who care.
You can help.
